It is difficult to discuss politics with people, even those who share similar views as your own. It is most challenging, of course, when the other person holds a differing viewpoint, or is altogether ignorant. Unfortunately the latter seems to be the case with so many Americans these days.
Many people I have talked to, both in person and online, seem content to have their head in the sand. This past Monday alone I had three different people flat tell me "I don't care what the government does. It doesn't affect me." ... Seriously? I guess its true what they say -- ignorance is bliss.
To a certain degree, I don't blame them. There is so much confusion surrounding politics and the government. It takes a conscious and deliberate effort to sift through the garbage to get at the real truth. There is no denying that this phenomenon is intentional. When it comes to politics, the more complex and confusing something is, the less apt people will be to make the required effort to understand it. And the less likely they will be to oppose it.
I'm not going to delve into any specific topic with this first post. At this point I simply want to set the tone for this blog. As the summary at the top of this page indicates, there are too many loud and obnoxious voices out there already. I have definitely done my fair share of shouting. But that is not my aim here.
My intention is for something different, something better. I want anyone who reads this blog to enjoy it, no matter what their viewpoint is. Humor, anecdotes, quotes, hard facts, and above all the plain and simple truth will be my tools. My primary goal is not convince, but to entertain, enlighten, and most of all encourage. I want the reader to seek out the truth on their own. I am confident that when someone makes a conscious and concerted effort to find the truth of their own accord, they will be successful. And who knows? At the end of the day perhaps I'll learn something too.
So, here I go...
